Velvet Bentgrass

Velvet Bentgrass is a low growing, fine textured perennial species that can be found in putting greens and some residential lawns throughout the northwest. This variety is adapted to both coarse and medium textured soils but will not grow well in soil with fine texture. It has a low drought tolerance, requiring at least thirty inches of rainfall per year. Velvet Bentgrass is moderately tolerant of soil with saline content. Plantings will not succeed in shaded areas, but where conditions are good it will actively grow through spring and summer.
