The California Bluebell is native to the deserts of California. Its blooms are a vibrant cobalt blue and it works very well as a cut flower. Darkness and shade help the California Bluebell seeds germination process. Hot days and cold nights, in conjunction with full sun or partial shade provide the best growing conditions. It should be planted in well-drained soil, although it needs little water. The soil composition where it gets planted can be sandy and still support active growth. This flower may be started indoors, but only if it is provided temperatures between 50 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of that requirement, it is usually best to start the seed outside.
